On April 15th, 50+ Jersey City Together leaders gathered on the steps of City Hall to press the mayor to stand by his commitment to 35%+ affordable housing on the Bayfront site. In the original drafts of the Request for Proposals, there had been requirements that 10% or 20% of units be affordable.
On May 17th, when the final RFP for the first parcels was released, the RFP made clear that proposals with more affordable housing would be given priority. It also strengthened language around the minimum that would be acceptable in the first bids.
This was a significant step in the right direction.
